When I met Erica, she was perched on the edge of making bold moves in her life that most people dream of but never dare attempt. She’d given notice at her high-powered corporate job and was preparing to transition into working for herself full-time in the two new businesses she’d created. And she was also living out her dream of being able to travel the world while building her businesses with a beloved flat in London that felt like home and the freedom to travel throughout Europe as she pleased.

But there was more beneath the surface of her story that wasn’t as carefree, joyful, and full of exhilaration.

She suffered from severe eczema that was not only itchy and painful; it deeply undermined her confidence and self esteem. Her sleep was disrupted at night (she was lucky if she got 5-6 hours of sleep because her mind kept going over and over all the things she had on her to-do list for the next day) which lead to sleeping in too late in the morning and feeling stressed about getting her work done.

She also had digestive problems that left her frequently constipated despite her health-conscious vegetarian diet and she was getting colonics every other week in an attempt to keep her digestive system working.

She knew that stress was a major trigger for her eczema and that she tended to put way too much pressure on herself, but she didn’t know how to stop. (And she was afraid that if she DID stop, everything in her life would fall apart.)

Erica’s success had just as much to do with her openness and her dedication to breaking her old patterns as it did with the herbs and lifestyle changes I suggested. Not only has her eczema cleared up (with only small flares occasionally that tell her she needs to pay attention to something in her diet or in her emotional life), but she’s also been able to heal her digestive symptoms without going on a strict raw foods diet or having frequent colonics.

Just as importantly, the journey she took to heal her physical body taught her lessons about loving herself, embracing her humanity (and inherent imperfection), and how to work with her inner critic as an ally rather than as a self-destructive enemy. Watch our video interview to learn more about how Erica is embracing a truly self-loving and holistic approach to her development as a person and as an entrepreneur.
